    Phase I and II ESA in Greater Houston

    CORE supported a public utility client during the design phase of a wastewater infrastructure project. The proposed alignment of the sanitary sewer line crossed through a portion of the historic Tomball Oilfield, dating back to 1933. Careful due diligence identified infrastructure associated with the oilfield activities, and a comprehensive sampling program helped the city identify areas where special handling and disposal procedures needed to be used during the construction phase. CORE also assisted with the development of a soil and groundwater management plan to be implemented during excavation.

    Vapor Intrusion Mitigation System Installation

    CORE Environmental supported the general contractor for a $97 million, 209-unit multifamily development in Houston’s River Oaks district by providing construction quality assurance services during installation of a vapor intrusion mitigation system. The system was required to address potential vapor intrusion risks associated with legacy environmental impacts from a former dry cleaning facility at the property. CORE provided inspection of specialty mitigation materials, observed installation activities, and documented field conditions to help verify that the system was installed in general accordance with project requirements. This oversight supported successful implementation of the mitigation system while helping reduce environmental risk during construction and future property use.

    Hydrogeologic Site Characterization in Maryland

    CORE Environmental supported hydrogeologic characterization activities at a federal facility in Maryland where a historical petroleum release had affected shallow groundwater. CORE performed source-area hydraulic testing, including slug testing of monitoring wells and a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon baildown test, to evaluate groundwater-bearing unit conditions and the mobility of petroleum impacts. The testing confirmed that the site is underlain by low-permeability silt and clay, with hydraulic conductivity values consistent with limited groundwater movement. Baildown testing further indicated very low petroleum transmissivity, supporting the conclusion that recoverability and migration potential were limited. These results provided a practical technical basis for understanding site conditions and supporting future environmental management decisions.

    PFAS and Emerging Contaminant Experience

    CORE Environmental’s technical personnel bring deep experience in the assessment and management of PFAS, 1,4-dioxane, and other emerging contaminants at complex sites, including industrial, aviation, and federal sites. This experience includes PFAS remedial investigations at military installations in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Maryland, and Arkansas; as well as emergency response activities associated with emerging contaminant impacts to groundwater in residential communities. CORE excels at projects involving Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) source evaluation, soil and groundwater characterization, stakeholder coordination, regulatory reporting, and development of conceptual site models to guide future investigation and response actions.
